Multicultural Month Highlights

LUMINOUS Lantern Parade – Brisbane

1 August 2025, South Bank Parklands, from 5:30pm

We’re kicking off Multicultural Queensland Month (MQM) with a burst of colour, culture, sounds and celebration. Join us in welcoming new Queenslanders and experience the magic of one of Queensland’s most iconic multicultural events. LUMINOUS is a powerful celebration of our state’s cultural diversity and shared commitment to inclusion.

Brisbane Lions Heritage Round – Brisbane

9 August, The Gabba, from 1:45pm

This year for Multicultural Queensland Month, the Brisbane Lions (AFL) will be proudly hosting a Heritage Round at The Gabba — a vibrant celebration of diversity that goes far beyond the footy. It’s a welcoming, unifying event where diverse communities are celebrated, new citizens are honoured, and everyone gets a taste of the multicultural heart of Brisbane — all under the roar of The Gabba’s lights.

Multicultural Queensland Month at the EKKA – Brisbane

9 to 17 August 2025, Brisbane Showgrounds

There are so many events, activities and experiences at the EKKA that you can join to celebrate MQM:

  • Visit the Multicultural Plaza Music Stage and enjoy culturally diverse entertainment while trying some international foods at the Gourmet Plaza.
  • Celebrate diversity through the joy of dance inside the Royal International Convention Centre. Each morning from 10:00am to 12:00pm, an experienced community instructor will teach you new moves:
    • 9 to 11 August – Angolan Kizomba
    • 12 August – Lebanese Dabke
    • 13 August – Bollywood
    • 14 August – West African dance and movement
    • 15 to 17 August – Greek and Cypriot traditional dancing
  • Every afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm in the Royal International Convention Centre join our hands-on cultural workshops to create an artwork to take home. There will be a different workshop daily that explores connections, traditions and stories.
  • Celebrate 25 years of recognition by learning more about the history and important role of Australian South Sea Islanders in Queensland by visiting the Australian South Sea Islander display located in the Royal International Convention Centre.

LUMINOUS – Gold Coast

23 August 2025, Home of the Arts, Surfers Paradise, from 3:00pm

Get excited as LUMINUOUS lights up the Gold Coast. Everyone is invited to be part of the festival and join in the parade. You can also try some delicious food, make your own lantern or watch some live entertainment from around the world. Let’s come together in unity and celebrate the beautiful cultural diversity on the Gold Coast.
