This interactive webinar explores how organisations can continue to strengthen their recruitment and selection approaches to attract a broad range of talent and ensure opportunities are accessible to the best candidates.

Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, participants will reflect on recruitment practices, decision-making processes and workplace approaches that support fair, effective and inclusive hiring.

About the presenters

This session will be led by Maia Tua-Davidson, Manager of Welcoming Clubs at Welcoming Australia and Ken Dachi, Welcoming Workplaces Coordinator at Welcoming Australia.

Maia Tua‑Davidson brings deep expertise in building welcoming, inclusive environments across sport and community organisations, alongside hands‑on leadership as a coach, volunteer and small business owner.

Ken Dachi draws on extensive experience in employer readiness, multicultural affairs and international development, working across Australia and abroad to strengthen inclusion, collaboration and settlement outcomes.

Building belonging through sport and recreation

This webinar is ideal for sporting clubs, state sporting organisations, local governments, recreation and community development professionals, volunteers, and anyone interested in strengthening participation and connection through sport and recreation.

Participants will gain practical insights into creating welcoming and inclusive environments, reducing barriers to participation, and using sport as a powerful tool to build stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

About the presenters

The session will be led by Cameron French, General Manager, Participation at the Australian Sports Commission and Sarah Scarce, Founding Director of The Aqua English Project.

Cameron French has a strong background in sport leadership, with experience spanning cricket, AFL and sport business development. He has led major participation initiatives and collaborated across the sector to open up opportunities for everyone.

Sarah Scarce combines international project experience with hands on work supporting multicultural communities. Her legal work with refugees and community driven programs through The Aqua English Project give her practical insight into strengthening cross cultural connection.

Strengthening welcoming workplaces in practice

The session will cover key elements of positive workplace culture, including effective onboarding, inclusive communication, supporting diverse teams, recognising different perspectives and creating environments where people can contribute their skills and experience.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own workplace practices and identify practical actions that support connection, collaboration and employee success.

About the presenters

The session will be led by Aleem Ali, CEO of Welcoming Australia and Ken Dachi, Welcoming Workplaces Coordinator of Welcoming Australia.

Aleem is a national leader in inclusive communities, mentoring social enterprises and initiatives that advance belonging and justice. As CEO of Welcoming Australia and Deputy Chair of Oxfam Australia, he works with organisations across the country to build cultures of welcome.

Ken Dachi coordinates Welcoming Workplaces, helping employers strengthen readiness and support diverse talent. He leads research partnerships, sector collaboration and advocacy, and works closely with the PALM scheme. His background spans multicultural affairs, local government and international development across 40+ countries.
