Remote and discrete community investment mapping
The Queensland Government is committed to coordinating whole-of-government efforts to lift living standards in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly in remote and discrete communities where basic amenities are often limited.
To help achieve this, the Department of Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism (DWATSIPM) is mapping data on reported services, programs, initiatives and associated investments for remote and discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This initiative is aligned to Priority Reform 4 under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap: Shared Access to Data and Information at a Regional Level. Information about government service investments provides transparency, promotes accountability and is a positive starting point for the collaboration needed to lifting living standards in communities and to improve health, educational and employment outcomes.
Some examples of expected benefits of this approach include enabling:
- collaboration to improve service models, access and outcomes; and to address duplicated services or service gaps
- remote and discrete service user visibility of local services available;
- analysis of service funding trends over time alongside social and justice reinvestment initiatives
- social service studies and research projects.
The data include reported programs, services and initiatives and deepen community and cross-agency capacity to work more closely to improve health, educational and employment outcomes.
Data ownership
The data provides a place-based, consolidated view of reported services, programs and initiatives by the responsible agency. The data contained within the products is not owned by DWATSIPM. Any questions regarding the data should be directed to the respective Queensland Government agency responsible.
Data limitations
Data is limited to investments, services, programs and initiatives that were reported by agencies at the time of collection. Due to demand-based resourcing and service models that often span across multiple geographical locations, it is acknowledged that it is not feasible to extract program expenditure data by remote and discrete community. For these datasets, available program details were requested to enable visibility of its availability to remote and discrete locations.
Data products
Data reported by community by financial year is developed into a dashboard format with some category-based desktop analysis.
