Legislation
The Administrative Arrangements Order sets out the laws that ministers are responsible for administering.
The department is responsible for administering (or jointly administering) the following legislation on behalf of our minister:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities (Justice, Land and Other Matters) Act 1984 (except to the extent administered by the Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers; and the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity); (sections 4, 8, 64-67, 70 and 71 jointly administered with the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity)
- Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003
- Family Responsibilities Commission Act 2008
- Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa (Torres Strait Islander Traditional Child Rearing Practice) Act 2020
- Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003
- Multicultural Recognition Act 2016
