Our Minister

Hon Fiona Simpson

The Honourable Fiona Simpson was sworn in as the Minister for Women and Women's Economic Security, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Minister for Multiculturalism on 1 November 2024.

Minister Simpson is responsible for delivering key government policies such as growing women’s economic security; improving health, education, housing and employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; and celebrating and supporting Queensland’s multicultural communities.

Minister Simpson was elected to the Queensland Parliament in 1992 as the Member for Maroochydore. She continues to represent the Maroochydore electorate, having grown up and gone to school on the Sunshine Coast, where she still resides.

In March 2012 she was elected to the position of Speaker, becoming the Queensland Parliament’s first female Speaker in its 150 years.

Minister Simpson brings a wealth of experience to her Ministerial role.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese language, Journalism and Government, as well as a Masters in Organisational Leadership. She is also a graduate from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has undertaken an executive leadership course with John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

Prior to entering politics, Minister Simpson worked as a journalist and received the Queensland Dalgety Excellence in Rural Journalism Award 1989.
