Luminous in the Regions - Gold Coast

The spectacular Luminous in the Regions returns to the Gold Coast for a second time, and the Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast (MCCGC) warmly invites everyone to join this vibrant celebration of cultural diversity. Hosted in collaboration with Multicultural Australia and supported by Multicultural Affairs Queensland and SBS Australia, the event will take place on Saturday, 23 August. The parade will feature stunning handmade lanterns crafted by communities across the region, illuminating the evening with colour and light. Last year’s event welcomed over 1,500 attendees and was embraced by multicultural communities and Australians alike, who came together to celebrate and welcome new Queenslanders. This year, the festival promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing magnificent lanterns, live music, and performances from around the world. The parade will include a powerful walk around the HOTA lake, symbolising unity and belonging, and acknowledging the strength and resilience of migrants. Children will have the opportunity to participate in lantern-making workshops from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, creating their own lanterns to display in the parade. Attendees can also enjoy a variety of low-cost food options available for purchase throughout the event.

Cultural acknowledgement

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors—our First Nations peoples—give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations towards creating a better Queensland.

Our human rights commitment

We will respect, protect and promote human rights within our decision-making and actions.
