Bridgeman: Building a legacy through leadership, innovation, and culture

Adam Sarota - Bridgeman

From Country to company leadership

Growing up in Far North Queensland, Adam Sarota has always felt a strong connection to Country. Today, as Owner and Managing Director of Bridgeman, that connection continues to shape the way he leads one of Queensland's most respected Indigenous businesses.

A proud Yidinji man and Traditional Owner, Adam's path to business ownership was anything but conventional. A highly regarded former Socceroo, his professional football career was cut short by a major injury. Rather than stepping away from ambition, Adam transitioned into the corporate world, beginning as a non-Executive Board member for a telecommunications company before quickly progressing into executive leadership roles.

He later joined Bridgeman as an Executive Director and, after four years helping to guide the business, became an owner of the company.

Proudly Indigenous, proudly Queensland

Today, Bridgeman is a proud Supply Nation-certified Indigenous business with 29 years of experience delivering metal manufacturing and construction projects across Queensland.

Operating from manufacturing facilities in Brisbane, Townsville and Toowoomba, the company delivers projects across government, health, hospitality, retail, and commercial sectors. For nearly three decades, Bridgeman has built a reputation for quality, innovation, and reliability, becoming a recognised market leader in the industry.

For Adam, business success has always been about more than commercial outcomes.

"I am proud of being an Aboriginal person and business owner. I want to create a company that other Indigenous people are proud of too. It's very important to show there are Indigenous businesses out there doing well."

Leading with purpose

Adam believes strong businesses have a responsibility to create positive outcomes for both people and communities.

Drawing on his experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, he brings a unique perspective to engaging with Indigenous communities, Traditional Owners, and stakeholders across Queensland.

He is passionate about creating opportunities for Indigenous people and is dedicated to supporting long-term career pathways for the next generation. His commitment extends beyond business through involvement in Indigenous social initiatives, including the Cairns Safer Streets Program and the One Mob Initiative.

One of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been seeing the tangible impact these initiatives have on people's lives.

"Creating opportunities for Indigenous people and seeing them grow in confidence and capability is incredibly rewarding. When people are given the chance to learn, develop skills and succeed, the benefits flow through families, communities and future generations."

Building a sustainable future

Under Adam's leadership, sustainability has become a key part of Bridgeman's long-term vision.

He is focused on building a company that respects the land, creates positive social outcomes, and delivers commercial success. This approach aligns closely with Bridgeman's core values of innovation, diversity, respect, and integrity.

The company's commitment to best practice is reflected in its extensive accreditations, including Federal Safety Commissioner accreditation and ISO certifications covering environmental management, quality assurance, occupational health and safety, and information security management.

"For us, success is about more than the projects we deliver. It's about building a business that respects Country, values people and leaves a positive legacy for future generations."

Creating opportunities through leadership

Adam leads by example, placing a strong emphasis on mentoring and empowering his workforce. He believes that investing in people is one of the most important factors in building a successful business.

By creating opportunities for employees to learn new skills, grow professionally and contribute meaningfully, Bridgeman continues to foster strong teams and lasting partnerships with clients.

"Developing happy, healthy and productive teams leads to better outcomes for everyone. When people feel supported and valued, they achieve great things."

Continuing the legacy

Bridgeman stands as a powerful example of how Indigenous-led businesses are contributing to economic growth while creating positive social and cultural outcomes.

Adam is mindful of the strong reputation Bridgeman has built over its 29-year history and is committed to building on that foundation for future generations.

"Bridgeman has a strong legacy, and I'm proud to be part of its next chapter. My focus is on continuing that journey, creating opportunities for others and helping to build a company that people are proud to be part of."

Through leadership, innovation and a deep commitment to community, Adam Sarota and Bridgeman are demonstrating the strength of Indigenous enterprise and helping inspire the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business leaders.
